Helping Government keep its promises
The collection, recycling and distribution of these metals also helps the Government fulfil its commitment to ‘green’ policies. This is only possible due to established businesses like ours. Our modern vehicle fleet is large and consists of articulated tipper lorries, and roll on-off skip lorries ensuring an efficient delivery and collection system.
Each year we collect, process and distribute over 1 million tonnes of ferrous scrap. That’s approximately 11% of the UK’s total. Most of this is exported worldwide - earning the country millions of pounds in exports income.
Investing in tomorrow – today
S.Norton & Co Ltd are forward thinking. We’re investing today for a cleaner, more efficient tomorrow.
Our processing or recycling centres in Liverpool and Manchester feature dedicated machinery that makes us amongst the most efficient and productive companies in this business. At Liverpool Bankfield we have recently commissioned the most modern machine of its type in Europe - a new Svedala shredder.
Together with a compression shear and baler, the range of equipment here is hugely impressive.
Added to this we also have a further high capacity shear at our Liverpool Canada Docks site. Meanwhile our Manchester Trafford Park operation contains a second shredder and shear, while also being home to an integrated non-ferrous metal processing plant. Each of these sites is served by accurate weighing facilities and a vast array of materials handling equipment.
Our exports operations are concentrated around our South Canada and West Canada Dock facilities in Liverpool, which are capable of loading vessels of more than 50,000 tonnes.
Taking a lead in Britain in recycling for the world
British expertise in Metals Recycling is world class. Our company’s practices and equipment lead the world and assists the Government in its Waste Strategy and the drive for sustainability. As an industry, our position is very much the ‘practical environmentalist’. Here we achieve a careful balance of commercial interests with the need for strict environmental control and management.
Our Company’s commitment to environmental compatibility will ensure compliance with forthcoming EU Directives setting new standards for the disposal of End of Life Vehicles and Waste Electrical and Electronic goods. These will require the recovery of materials other than metals to meet the stipulated targets and, to achieve this, Norton has invested in new material separation equipment and a plastics recycling plant.
Growing emphasis on environmental issues
S.Norton & Co Ltd has long demonstrated a strategy for growth, which has been maintained through a strong regard for the environment. This will continue to be the case driving our investment in modern technology to reach new and more demanding standards of processing and care.
